Quantum Helpdesk makes quantum technology accessible to Swedish companies

Quantum technology is described as the next big technological leap, but how it will be used in industry and society is still to be explored. At Chalmers Next Labs, CEO Monica Ringvik and her team are helping companies explore the possibilities - including through the Quantum Helpdesk customer service.

Quantum technology has long been considered a vision of the future, but now it is becoming more concrete. Instead of the bits of ordinary computers - 0 or 1 - quantum computers use quantum bits that can be both 0 and 1 simultaneously. This allows them to process information in ways that classical computers cannot, resulting in calculations with a power and speed that can solve problems that were previously impossible.

Chalmers has been researching in this area for over 25 years and now developments are starting to take off. CEO Monica Ringvik says that quantum computing enables a deeper understanding of materials at the atomic level, advanced measurement techniques and solutions to complex calculations that open up new possibilities.

- Sweden has a chance to take the lead by opening up research and infrastructure. Things are moving faster than many people think, but the real revolution is about making technology useful in industry and society," she says.

Working to make quantum computing practical

Chalmers Next Labs works between research and industry to make quantum computing practically useful, especially in drug development. Quantum computers allow researchers to simulate molecules and their properties on a whole new level, which, according to Ringvik, can significantly shorten drug development time. The technology also has great potential in logistics, energy distribution and production, where it can optimize flows, save resources and reduce climate impact. In addition, the quantum computer can become an important piece of the puzzle in the energy transition by simulating and streamlining everything from batteries to grid solutions for renewable energy.

Offers guidance, tools and the opportunity to test

Ringvik points out that the development is similar to the journey with artificial intelligence. Many companies want to use AI but don't really know how - and the same pattern is now visible in the quantum field. To succeed, she explains that guidance, tools and the opportunity to test in practice are needed.

- At Chalmers Next Labs, we help companies find how quantum computing can be relevant to their challenges and identify early wins. Through the Quantum Helpdesk, companies get expert support, an initial analysis of needs and easy access to Sweden's only testbed for quantum technology. We know that the path to results is rarely straight - research is complex. But working with us is simple and smooth, and we ensure validity and quality at every step. Our mission is to listen to needs, lower thresholds and open doors so that the quantum revolution can become a reality.
