Region Västra Götaland is now investing SEK 5 million in Space West - a new strategic collaboration platform to strengthen Sweden's position in the commercial space industry. The platform is run by Chalmers Next Labs and brings together actors from industry, the public sector and academia to build a strong, national space ecosystem with international reach.

Based in Gothenburg, Space West will promote technology development, innovation and collaboration, with a particular focus on dual-use solutions- technologies that can be used for both civil and military purposes. The project complements existing space initiatives in western Sweden and strengthens the region's role as an engine in the growing Swedish space sector.

- "Space West is a first step towards a new Swedish space ecosystem. We are creating the right conditions for companies to develop space services that meet both public and commercial needs," says Aaron Dinardi, project coordinator at Chalmers Next Labs.

Behind the initiative is a wide range of partners, from technology companies such as Beyond Gravity and Frontgrade Gaisler to authorities such as MSB, the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Transport Administration. The ambition is to jointly drive the development of new business models, strengthen Sweden's competitiveness and increase the benefits of space data in society.
