We are looking for a Technical Business Developer for Quantum
Are you an ambitious early-career professional looking to bridge the gap between cutting-edge physics and commercial strategy? Can you translate clients’ needs into concrete development plans? Then we’d like to hear from you!
Work location: Chalmers Next Labs Office, Johanneberg Campus, Arvid Hedmans Backe 4, 411 33 Gothenburg
Employment type: Full-time fixed-term position (initial two-year contract).
Reporting to: Unit Manager, Quantum Technology Lab
Travel: Some travel may be required as part of the role
About the Role
We are looking for a Technical Business Developer to serve as the primary link between our deep tech capabilities and our clients’ real-world challenges. This is an ideal role for someone relatively new to the workforce who has a solid engineering background and is eager to learn the business side of deep tech.
Although we operate in a highly technical field, we are not looking for a lab researcher for this role. Instead, we are looking for an exceptional communicator and creative thinker. We need someone who can truly listen to our clients, identify their core problems, and help us design business solutions that address them.
You’ll spend your time interacting with industry innovators, identifying what our existing clients need next, and exploring new markets where our technology can make an impact. You don’t need to be an expert in quantum technology from day one; we’ll teach you the ins and outs. You just need the curiosity to learn about it and the interpersonal skills to talk about it and identify our next opportunity.
What You'll Do
– Master Client Relationships: Serve as the primary point of contact for our key clients. Your main goal is to listen, understand their business challenges, and build strong, lasting relationships.
– Manage the Client Journey: Ensure that clients have a smooth experience when working with us. You design the client journey, from initial contact and planning to the final experiment and follow-up.
– Work in the Testbed: To help you speak the language of the field, you’ll spend time working hands-on in our testbed. You won’t be expected to conduct complex physics experiments right from the start, but you’ll coordinate the team to ensure that we deliver what we promise, on time and to the highest standards.
– Shape Our Offerings: Be the “voice of the client” internally. Take the feedback and insights you gather from client conversations and work with our team to package, price, and evolve our services to better meet market needs.
– Discover New Markets: Look beyond our current scope. Network, explore new industries, and identify new client segments that could benefit from our technologies and solutions.
What We Are Looking For
To be successful in this role, your superpower must be communication and relationship-building. We need someone with a solid engineering background, but we’ll teach you the specifics of quantum physics. You simply need to bring your business acumen.
– Exceptional Communicator: You are a people person who excels at active listening. You know how to ask the right questions to uncover a client’s true needs and can build rapport with both technical and business stakeholders.
– Commercial Acumen: You have a natural instinct for business development. You understand how to identify opportunities, define value propositions, and help structure offerings that clients actually want to buy.
– Technical Curiosity: You aren’t intimidated by complex technology. While we will train you, any prior exposure to or interest in fields such as quantum computing, superconductivity, cryogenics, or microwave electronics is a fantastic bonus.
– Problem-Solving Mindset: You enjoy acting like a detective, gathering clues from conversations with clients and piecing them together into a coherent business strategy.
General Qualifications
– MSc in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
– 0–3 years of professional experience in technical sales, business development, engineering, consulting, or entrepreneurship.
– Fluency in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Swedish is a plus.
– Excellent communication skills and a client-oriented mindset.
– A curiosity about science and technology.
Why join us?
This is a unique opportunity to launch your career and shape the commercial trajectory of advanced technologies without needing a Ph.D. You will be an independent, highly valued contributor who determines how our technology is applied in the real world, supported by a team of technical experts ready to help you succeed.
What We Offer
– The Forefront of Innovation: You will work directly at the intersection of deep tech research and real-world applications, gaining hands-on experience with technologies that are shaping the future.
– Autonomy & Trust: We believe in giving our team a high degree of freedom and responsibility. You’ll have the freedom to take ownership of your work and make a real difference.
– A Collaborative Culture: We foster an open, welcoming environment where new ideas are highly valued and cross-functional collaboration is the norm.
– Flexibility: We offer flexible working hours and the option to work from home on some days to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
