About Chalmers Next Labs

Chalmers Next Labs serves as a dynamic bridge between academia and industry. Working closely with Chalmers University of Technology, our mission is to ensure that cutting-edge research leads to practical applications that benefit society. We exist to create commercial pathways that bring advanced technology from the laboratory to the market.

About the Role and the AI Lab

We are expanding our AI lab and are now looking for two AI engineers to join the team. You will play a key role in developing the lab’s architecture, infrastructure, and methodologies, while also delivering solutions for exciting industrial projects.

You will develop and refine machine learning solutions in close collaboration with industry experts, data scientists, and academic researchers.

The work covers the entire machine learning lifecycle, with a focus on ensuring that the models are not only effective during the development phase but also robust and reliable in industrial environments. Depending on the needs of the business, your responsibilities may also extend beyond the field of machine learning.

Job Responsibilities

Data collection and preparation

  • Collect data from sources such as APIs, databases, and sensors.
  • Compile and preprocess data.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to adapt the data to meet model requirements.

Model Development and Training

  • Design, develop, and train machine learning models.
  • Optimize performance through iterative training, validation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with software and platform engineers to integrate models into production environments.
  • Monitor the model's performance and retrain the models as needed.

Validation and deployment

  • Evaluate the model's accuracy, generalizability, and robustness in various scenarios
  • Identify and address bias, data drift, and conceptual drift
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure reliable and scalable deployment
  • Ensure that AI systems comply with applicable regulatory requirements in production.

Your Background

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A master's degree in mathematics, physics, electronics, or computer science
  • At least three years of experience in machine learning, preferably with experience across a significant portion of the lifecycle—from data preprocessing and modeling to validation
  • Experience working in modern software development environments, including code review, automated testing, and version control.

You have excellent collaboration skills and enjoy working in a team. You are open to new ideas and perspectives, and have a strong drive to move the work forward. You are comfortable dealing with uncertainty and taking risks, and you enjoy creating structure and writing reusable code that can be applied in various use cases.

Are you interested?

We are offering two full-time, permanent positions based in Gothenburg. Both roles report to the head of the AI lab. The positions are to be filled as soon as possible.

A background check will be conducted as part of the recruitment process. The position may also be subject to a security clearance.

If you have any questions, please contact Jonna Stålring Westerberg, Director of the AI Lab, by email at jonna.stalring@chalmersnextlabs.se.

We look forward to receiving your application!

Please submit your application through our recruitment portal no later than November 12, 2026. We do not accept applications via email. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, which means that positions may be filled before the application deadline.
